How Should I Wash Clothes That Are Moldy or Have a Moldy Smell?

Of course, if the clothing is non-washable, it will need to be dry-cleaned. However, if it is washable, here are the most effective steps:

Wash clothes with your regular detergent.

Add a cup of bleach.

Make sure the detergent you use does not contain ammonia.

Repeat as necessary until the moldy odor is gone.

Once you are satisifed that your clothes are free of mold, you should consider storing them in sealed plastic or garment bags to prevent re-contamination.
